This A/C Condenser is a vintage, cab-over-engine specific component designed for the thermal systems of:
Peterbilt 362 Models: Primarily designed for models manufactured between 1988 and 1989.
Engine Specificity: The part may also be referenced for earlier models equipped with the 12.7L engine, common during that era.
This part represents a historic design transition in Peterbilt HVAC systems:
Design Type: It typically utilizes the Serpentine or Tube & Fin design, which was standard before the widespread adoption of Parallel Flow condensers. While less efficient than modern parallel flow, the design must be maintained for original system integrity.
Cabin Comfort: For the Peterbilt 362 Cab-Over-Engine, which has a large, flat glass area and high engine heat transfer, a fully functional condenser is critical to overcoming the heat load and ensuring a tolerable working environment for the driver during long hauls.
System Integrity: As this is a part for older vehicles, replacement ensures the entire system (including the vintage compressor) operates within its original pressure tolerances, preventing catastrophic failure due to excessive high-side pressure.
Given the vintage and operation of these heavy-duty COE trucks, failure symptoms often include:
Refrigerant Leakage: The most common issue is failure due to metal fatigue and internal corrosion over time, leading to slow or rapid loss of refrigerant and subsequent poor cooling.
External Damage from Debris: Since the condenser is positioned behind the front grille, damage from road debris over decades of use—including cracked tubes and damaged fins—is frequent, causing leaks.
Low Cooling Capacity: Even without a leak, extreme clogging of the external fins with dust, oil, and road grime reduces heat transfer dramatically, leading to the A/C blowing only moderately cool or warm air.
Replacing this condenser requires attention to specific service protocols for vintage A/C systems:
Crucial Drier Replacement: You must replace the Receiver Drier/Accumulator simultaneously. On older systems, exposure to air guarantees moisture contamination, which will form corrosive acid and destroy the new condenser and the compressor if the drier is not replaced.
Lubricant Check: Verify the oil type used in the system. Trucks from this era may have originally used R-12 refrigerant (Mineral Oil). If the system was converted to R134a, ensure the correct PAG oil is used in the recharge, and check for compatibility with remaining system components.
Thorough System Flush: Given the system's age, a complete system flush is highly recommended to remove any old oil residue, metal particles, and contaminants that could damage the new unit and the compressor.
Leak Testing: After installation, the system must be pressure tested for leaks using dry nitrogen before the final R134a refrigerant charge.
We specialize in high-quality, hard-to-find components for classic and retired heavy-duty fleets:
Niche Market Supply: We provide reliable sourcing for high-failure parts like the 1803543 Peterbilt 362 Condenser, catering to the specific needs of fleet managers and repair shops that maintain these long-service-life trucks.
OEM-Grade Specifications: Our units are manufactured to match the original dimensions and material specifications, ensuring perfect fitment and system integrity for the Peterbilt 362 12.7L application.
MOQ and Partnership: Our Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) is typically set at 50 units for condensers, with competitive bulk pricing available. We are dedicated to supporting importers who serve the specialized vintage heavy-duty truck parts market.
